Dental implants in Bakewell.

Losing a tooth changes small things you never thought about — which side you chew on, how wide you smile in photos, whether you order the steak. A dental implant is the closest thing modern dentistry has to growing that tooth back: a small titanium post that fuses with your jawbone and supports a crown, bridge or denture that looks, feels and works like your own.

What patients say about the practice

Is it right for you?

If any of these sound familiar…

Implants aren’t for everyone, and the assessment exists to find out honestly whether they’re right for you. But these are the situations where they tend to change lives.

  • You’ve lost a tooth (or several) and want a fixed solution — nothing that comes out at night
  • Your denture moves, rubs or limits what you eat
  • You’re facing an extraction and want to plan the replacement properly
  • You want to protect the healthy teeth either side of a gap rather than crown them for a bridge
  • You’re in reasonable general health with healthy gums (we’ll assess the rest)

Why an implant

Built to last, designed to feel like your own.

An implant does more than fill a gap. By replacing the root as well as the tooth, it restores the way your mouth is meant to work — and protects what’s around it.

  • Eat like nothing ever happened

Apples, crusty bread, steak: implants restore near-natural biting force, so the “careful side” of your mouth retires.

  • Your other teeth stay untouched

Unlike a bridge, an implant doesn’t need the neighbouring teeth drilled down. Healthy enamel stays healthy.

  • Your jawbone stays alive

Bone shrinks where a tooth is missing; an implant stimulates it like a natural root, helping preserve your facial structure over the years.

  • One tooth or a whole smile

From a single discreet replacement to full-arch bridgework and clip-in implant-retained dentures that end loose-denture misery for good.

Your journey

Five steps, unhurried, from first visit to last.

Implant treatment is a considered process rather than a single appointment. Here is what to expect, from the moment you sit down with us.

  1. / 05

    Consultation & planning

A thorough assessment with X-rays/3D imaging to map bone, nerves and the perfect implant position. You’ll get a written plan and exact costs — no surprises, ever.

  2. / 05

    Placement

A calm, precise procedure under local anaesthetic. Most patients tell us it was easier than the extraction that started it all.

  3. / 05

    The quiet clever part

Over 2–4 months the implant fuses with your bone (osseointegration) — the biological magic that makes implants so strong.

  4. / 05

    Your new tooth

A custom-made crown, bridge or denture is fitted, colour-matched and shaped to disappear into your smile.

  5. / 05

    Aftercare

Simple home care plus regular hygiene visits. Look after it like a natural tooth, and it behaves like one.

The honest picture

Straight answers, before you decide.

We think good dentistry means telling you the whole picture — including when an implant may not be the simplest path. You’ll never be rushed, and you’ll never be sold to.

  • The right foundation matters

Implants need adequate bone and healthy gums, so some patients need preparatory work first.

  • Smoking affects success

Smoking significantly reduces success rates — we’ll be straight with you about that.

  • Small, explained risks

As with any minor surgery there are small risks, which Robert will explain fully at your assessment.

  • Every option, every cost

Alternatives include bridges and dentures, and we’ll always price every route side by side — so the decision is genuinely yours.

I’d lived with a gap for years and hid it in every photo. Robert talked me through everything so calmly that the day itself felt like nothing. Now I forget which tooth it even was — I just smile.

Making it last

Cared for like a tooth, it lasts like one.

Nothing exotic is required — just the same good habits that protect natural teeth, applied consistently.

  1. Clean as normal

Brush and clean between teeth as usual — implants can’t decay, but gums around them can still get inflamed.

  2. Keep hygiene visits

Regular hygiene appointments keep the gum around your implant healthy for the long term.

  3. Tell us if you grind

If you grind your teeth, say so — a nightguard protects your investment.

  4. Don't smoke

Smoking is the single biggest controllable risk to an implant’s long-term success.

Good to know

Common questions

The placement is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients report less discomfort than a tooth extraction — a couple of days of manageable soreness handled by ordinary painkillers.

It depends on many things — your general health, your gums, your bite and how well it is looked after — so your dentist will talk it through for your own case. Good hygiene and regular check-ups give it the best chance.

No — there’s no upper age limit. Bone quality and general health matter far more than the number on your birthday cake. We regularly place implants for patients in their 70s and 80s.

Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few months’ healing — your assessment will tell us. If your tooth was lost years ago, bone grafting can often rebuild what’s shrunk.

Every case is different, so implants are priced by individual written quotation after your assessment — the assessment fee is on our price list. You’ll know the full figure before anything starts, and payment is staged across appointments.
