Check-ups & hygiene.

Here’s the quiet truth of dentistry: the cheapest, most powerful treatments are the boring-sounding ones. A check-up finds problems while they’re small, painless and inexpensive; a hygiene visit stops most of them happening at all. Our hygiene team has over 30 years’ combined experience, and our whole philosophy is built on prevention — we’d rather teach you to never need us than treat you often.

What patients say about the practice

Is it right for you?

Everyone — but especially if…

Check-ups and hygiene are for everybody, at every age. A few situations make them matter even more.

  • It’s been more than a year (no judgement; you’d be amazed how normal that is)
  • Your gums bleed when you brush (that’s not “just how gums are” — it’s the earliest, most fixable sign of gum disease)
  • You’re pregnant, diabetic, or a smoker — all raise gum-health stakes
  • You have children — good habits start with the first “ride in the chair”
  • You’ve invested in whitening, bonding, implants or Invisalign and want it all to last

Why it matters

The best value in dentistry.

Prevention is quietly the most powerful thing we do — catching problems while they’re small, screening for what you can’t see, and coaching that fits your actual life.

  • Small problems stay small

A tiny filling found at a check-up is one straightforward visit. The same tooth, left two years, can need root canal treatment and a crown — more visits, more cost, more of your time. Catching it early is always the cheaper path.

  • A cancer check you didn't know you were getting

Every examination includes screening of the soft tissues of your mouth. Early detection transforms outcomes.

  • A genuinely deep clean

Professional scaling reaches the hardened deposits no toothbrush can touch — under the gumline, behind the lower front teeth, all the classics.

  • Advice that fits your actual life

Tailored coaching on brushing, interdental cleaning, diet and habits — for toddlers, teenagers, denture-wearers and everyone between.

Your journey

Examine, clean, plan.

A visit is more thorough than it looks from the chair. Here’s what’s actually happening.

  1. / 03

    Your examination

Teeth, gums, existing fillings and crowns, jaw joints, bite, and an oral cancer screen. X-rays when clinically justified — never routinely.

  2. / 03

    Your hygiene visit

Scaling, polishing, stain removal, gum measurements — and honest, practical coaching for the other 363 days a year.

  3. / 03

    Your personal recall

Six-monthly suits most; some need more, some less. We recommend what your mouth actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

The honest picture

Straight answers, before you decide.

Prevention is easier the earlier you start — which is rather the point of coming regularly.

  • Established gum disease takes work

If we find it, treatment means a course of deeper cleaning and genuinely changed home habits. It’s treatable — and much easier the earlier it’s caught.

  • Some things can't wait

Bleeding gums, persistent bad breath or loosening teeth deserve an appointment now, not at the next recall.

Making it last

The other 363 days.

What you do at home matters far more than what we do in the chair. Keep it simple and consistent.

  1. Twice daily, spit don't rinse

Fluoride toothpaste, morning and night — and don’t rinse the fluoride straight off.

  2. Clean between once a day

Interdental brushes or floss — the single step that moves the needle most.

  3. Sugar frequency, not quantity

It’s how often, not how much — keep it to mealtimes.

  4. See us at your interval

At the recall we recommend for your mouth, not a default.

Good to know

Common questions

Most adults: examination every 6 months, hygiene tailored to your gum health. Stable, healthy mouths can stretch longer — we’ll say so.

Never. Our whole team’s job is getting you comfortable and your mouth healthy — the past is just the starting point.

We love seeing children — early, positive visits are the best gift you can give their adult teeth. Family appointments can be arranged together.

Maintenance is a cosmetic clean and polish; Maintenance Plus adds full scaling and personalised oral hygiene coaching. Both are on our price list.
