Treatments · White fillings
White, tooth-coloured fillings.
Nobody should have to advertise their dental history every time they laugh. Modern white fillings restore decayed or damaged teeth invisibly — colour-matched to your enamel and bonded to the tooth, which means they don’t just fill the hole, they help hold the tooth together. We can also swap old silver amalgam fillings for discreet white ones where there’s a good reason to.

What patients say about the practice
Is it right for you?
If any of these sound familiar…
White is our default for fillings, not an upgrade. These are the situations where one is the right move.
- A new cavity that needs filling (white is our default, not an upgrade)
- A dark silver filling that shows when you laugh, yawn or speak
- An old amalgam that’s cracked, leaking or due for replacement anyway
- A chipped back tooth that needs rebuilding
Why white fillings
Seal and strengthen, don't just fill.
Because composite bonds to the tooth rather than just sitting in it, a white filling restores strength as well as appearance — while keeping more of your natural tooth.
Invisible repair
Matched to your tooth’s exact shade. Even you will lose track of which tooth it was.
Bonds and strengthens
Amalgam sits in a hole; composite bonds to the walls, reinforcing the remaining tooth rather than just occupying space.
Keeps more of your tooth
Bonding needs less drilling than amalgam’s mechanical locks, so more healthy tooth survives the appointment.
Mercury-free
Composite contains no mercury, in line with the worldwide phase-down of dental amalgam.
Your journey
Spotted, repaired, polished.
A filling is one calm visit — and the earlier the decay is caught, the smaller the job.

Diagnosis
Decay spotted at your examination (this is why check-ups pay for themselves — small fillings are cheaper than big ones).
- / 03
The repair
Under local anaesthetic: decay removed, tooth conditioned, composite layered in and set with light — one visit.
- / 03
Bite & polish
Adjusted until it feels like nothing at all, then polished to match the enamel around it.

The honest picture
Straight answers, before you decide.
A filling is the right answer up to a point. Part of our job is telling you where that point is.
Very large cavities
Beyond a certain size, an onlay or crown protects the tooth better long-term than any filling — and we’ll tell you when that line is crossed.
Replacing sound amalgam
If a silver filling is sound and hidden, replacing it purely for looks means removing a little more tooth. We’ll lay out the pros and cons and never pressure you either way.
Making it last
Nothing special required.
Well-placed composites ask for exactly the same care as the rest of your teeth.
Brush and clean between
Keep your check-ups — that’s the whole maintenance plan.
Report lasting sensitivity
A few days is normal; anything beyond a couple of weeks is worth a quick review.
Expect many years
Well-placed composites routinely last a long time.
Good to know
Common questions
For the vast majority of fillings, yes — modern composites are highly durable and used on back teeth as standard.
Only if they’re failing, or the appearance genuinely bothers you. “Sound and invisible” is usually best left alone — we’ll advise tooth by tooth.
Possibly for a few days, especially with deeper fillings. Persistent sensitivity is worth a quick review — call us.
